Castle in Lipovce
Basic description:
Small remains of the castle are located north-west of the village on the limestone rock called Zámčisko under which flows the brook called Lačňovský potok. The castle complex is situated at the narrow end of the hill orientated north-south.
History:
The castle was built as a noble one in the domain Svinia which was acquired after 1262 by the lord Merše. Probably he or his son Beňadik let build the castle in the second half of the 13th century. We do not know when it started to go to ruins but according to preserved architecture probably sometime at the end of the Middle Ages.
Exterior:
The natural configuration of the terrain divided the castle into two bigger parts. The northern part is behind the moat, on its highest peak there was cylindrical stone tower with a nine-meter diameter. On the first courtyard there were probably all improvements situated and there was the end of the only access path too. The southern part was formed by inside castle which had steep slopes and was accessible by narrow (3.5 m) neck. In the southern part of the castle there was a palace (10x6 m) with round north-east corner. On the edge of the rock there are two shooting ranges carved in the stone. Both parts of the castle were joined by 1.4 m thick wall on the neck by which the access to the southern part was possible.
Present day condition:
The stone tower is remained up to 1.5 floors, in the southern part of the castle there is stone destruction with regular rectangular ground plan - probably a palace.
