Highland Hotel Canyon - Lipovce

Mineral water in Lipovce was well-known very long time ago. According to tradition, monks, who were the owners or inhabitants of the castle on one of the peaks of Branisko, used it a lot. At the end of the first half of the 18^th century M. Bell mentions as first these springs in his manuscript of Šariš district. Lipovce was the possession of Szinyey family. After that was the village originally named Szine - Lipóc. The new owner G. Splényi let here built the small spa building with baths. Baron, marshal Gabriel Splényi invited to Lipovce Š. Jósa, the main doctor of Sabolcs district, and he analysed mineral water springs in Šindliar and Lipovce in 1799.

Even E. Osann in his balneography of Europe mentions this mineral water. The water from the string by curia is judged as very rich on iron therefore it can be compared to mineral water from Bardejov. Dr. Alojz Jácz analysed water from main and thermal spring too. He characterized them both as sulphurous, ferrous alkaline acidulous carbonic water and considering their healing effects they were judged as second best in Šariš district immediately after Bardejov thermal springs. At the beginning of the 19^th century the new owner Count Szakmáry started to fill it in bottles and expand under name Salvator - The Saviour. One of the springs was between 18^th and 19^th century walled up. The spring Salvator is therefore the oldest modified source of mineral water in Lipovce.

The use of this mineral water was not a big success in spas though. It lacked mainly the temperature but Lipovce became anyway the spa of a big importance where aristocratic families from Prešov district grouped in the first half of the 19^th century. The less popular was the spa, the more the table water Salvator. At the end of the 19^th century Lipovce is known mainly for bottling of table mineral water. The importance of the water is underlined by the fact it was given the right of protected areas by Hungarian government in 1880. In the 20^th century, mainly after WWII there was a big bottling factory built.
